PayU2Blog: a good alternative to PPP and Text-Link-Ads?

I was quite flattered when someone approached me about writing for their blogging system, only to realize it wasn’t a blogging system, but a text-link type system later on.

Good evening Kenneth,

I see that you do some client promotion on your blog. Do you have any
more time for additional assignments? We have a lot of clients who can
use your writing skills.

Visit our site www.payu2blog.com for more information and contact me if
you have an interest in getting started.

Best Regards,

Derek

So, I wrote back to enquire about their website, thinking it might be like Payperpost, ReviewME or some such. But this is what I found.

Receiving Assignments:

We have a few additional requirements in order to receive assignments
that you are paid for.

1.You HAVE to AGREE to Link to (within your articles) any assigned
subject. This is a requirement. If your blog has a standard theme and
you do not want to include posts with links to other topics, then I’m
sorry, our projects are not for you. You can link creatively but the
links need to be there in order to be paid. …

Actually, this could be quite an interesting proposition for some bloggers who have general blogs, or blogs that cover a range of topics. I decided, for this blog, that it wasn’t for me because I couldn’t choose my subjects, I didn’t want to end up posting about inappropriate things on this blog and/or linking to inappropriate websites. Would you guys and gals want to read about return address labels, painting costs, etc. on this blog?

Check out this guy’s website, it might be worth it for you, though.

The ThriftyScot-ness Works: And how!

This past six months has been quite difficult for me in some ways. Our business revenue dropped by about 20%, and as a result, we faced a drop in our personal incomes of about the same amount. It became my mission as a result to find ways to cut unnecessary expenses, and to my surprise, these ways have been effective. So what did we cut!?

We cut two things: financially related expenses and incidentals.
1. We took a large knife to our insurance bills that worked effectively. We found we were over insured in some ways, or overpaying for insurance in other ways. We saved about

2. We were quite aggressive in reducing our mortgage payments when we had the chance. The temptation when you are superbusy is to avoid dealing with financial issues. You forget that you are busy making money, so you end up wasting money on bad financing deals, higher expenses, poor financial products, etc..

3. I spent time looking for higher interest rates and a more efficient current account this past year. Again, I decided to optimize my income resources as a way to ease the pressure on our finances. It worked well. I managed to double my average interest rate (also thanks to rising rates).

4. We have a car loan that is currently nearly 60% paid up. The interest rate and payments are fixed so there’s not much we can do there. Since we don’t carry any personal loans, we have no room for any improvement on that score, at all.

5. But, we were spending quite a lot of money on credit card expenses, including interest payments. So we took action by paying off our credit cards completely, which took a few months, and then making a resolution to NOT run credit card charges of any kind. EVER.

It’s difficult to figure out how much we saved as a result, but we know we saved quite a bit. I’d guess that we probably saved more than $3,300 over the course of a year or more. Not bad. So, if I can do it, you can, too.

Many websites have trouble generating significant traffic. I have some ideas that you can do….

1. email your friends with an introduction to your website! A quality website will be worth visiting! (easy)
2. a blog can certainly attract traffic, too. (takes time)
3. find some good quality directories.
4. make sure your site is indexed in Google, Yahoo, DMOZ, too. (easy to check/add and free).
5. put your URL in your signature for emails, forums, and other places where you login (easy, free and simple).
6. post notes in other blogs with info. about your website, but DON’T spam!
7. For a blog, join http://www.blogsoldiers.com and http://www.blogmad.net: both of these drive traffic, I have noted.
8. make sure your website has a ‘sitemap’ (may not be difficult)
9. check your website’s Meta file for appropriate keywords (fairly quick, usually).
10. join other people’s blogs, and post relevant posts to their blog, with links to yours. Make sure it’s okay with the blog owner, though!
11. try adwords or text links to generate additional traffic (text links might be more effective)

and number 12 is

12. keep your content fresh and exciting, word of mouth still works on the Internet, but now it’s called Viral Marketing.
