TheNewsRoom: Videos, Stories and Cash!

With all the video and news related websites, it’s difficult these days to start another start to make an impact, but The News Room is trying! And it’s putting quite an interesting spin on things, by allowing bloggers to earn some revenue from the sharing the advertising income with rates starting at$1 CPM. With thousands of different stories, pictures and videos to include, bloggers will be sure to find great additional content for their websites.

But there’s more! TheNewsRoom.com will also allow you to generate revenue in two ways: advertising, and also when your website’s content is used on someone else’s website. The rates are good at upto $4 CPM, so with a little effort you could find your videos and stories competing directly with the big boys! The full current tarriff is available on their website on the ‘getpaid’ page. In fact, their system employs viral techniques so it’s possible to earn primary and secondary income from your content!

To do all of this: first of all you need to create an account and enter your payment details. Then you can start mashing. Search the website for stories, and when you see something, click on the mash button which looks like this:

You’ll get some code that will look odd, something like this:

But you paste it into your website or blog, much like you paste the code from YouTube. Voila!

May 2007: Consistent and Improving…

I already posted my May stats and they are substantially correct as of June 1st, with one notable exception: I finally crossed the 100K Technorati ranking! For that, I’d like to thank especially the supporters of my various competitions and activities! I’m looking forward to running even more!

Anyway May income results are in:

Payperpost: $119.50
Google : $5.44
SR/ReviewME/Other : $7.00
Adlinks : $266.95
Stocks: $74.21
Hosting : $0.00
Bank A/C Interest : $19.31
Total: $492.91

So although the overall amounts are broadly similar to last month’s, there are significant differences. Payperpost was down quite a lot since last month; I’m beginning to see an end to Payperpost blogging due to recent changes within the network, at least for me. There are too many bloggers now chasing too few opportunities, despite my blogging being highly rated, my time zone places me at quite a disadvantage!

Link sales have been good this month, as I offered for sale three links and generated additional revenue from TLA. Also, my reorganization of the bank accounts is now generating even more per month, though I reckon that I can still increase it another 25%. Dividends are still coming at a good pace, and my account is still 14% cash at the moment anyway. I’m also sitting on about $2,000 cash, but I’m undecided on how to create additional revenue each month with this cash.

I’ve been an income investor/entrepreneur for quite some time, so some of my sources of income go back quite a few years. Overall, though, I’ve earned over $4,037 in cash (less taxes, of course) since I began recording this September 1st, 2006. While the amount is nowhere near my goal of $1500 per month, I’m regularly bringing in approx. 1/3 of that now. So, to achieve that within nine months is pretty spectacular.

Weather Report: Another Dry Spell!

Seems like the last few days I’ve been going through a dry spell! I just noticed I posted two quotations back to back, something that I never do. But yesterday I found that I had! As you can see in the jpeg, I have a lot of ideas for posts that I never get around to writing! I write the stub, and then a few words, and that’s it! See for yourself what I mean! It’s not writer’s block is it? I don’t know what to call it, perhaps writer’s stub!

dry spell

So I’ve been counselling myself like this to solve the problem, and I’d like to share these thoughts with my readers, and fellow bloggers.

  1. Since I’ve been posting basically seven days a week for the past few weeks, I’m going to have to start taking more time off to bring my ideas back to the boil! Sometimes working less achieves more.
  2. The second strategy I’m going to try is to limit the amount of time I spend on the Internet, because I find with open ended hours, I tend to be less focused and more easily distracted by Google News or Reader or Boards or whatever.
  3. The third strategy I’m trying is to write one complete post each time I sit down, no matter how short or long it is. That way I’ll leave the chair with positive feelings, not negative frustrations that so many posts are undone!
  4. Of course, the last strategy is to copy the office tidy desk strategy: write it, file it or delete it. If you write it, fine, it’s done. If you file it, file it where you can come back one day but not where it can be seen easily because it’s filed. Of course, if you delete it, then problem solved as you can’t usually retrieve it on a system like this!

So these are my four strategies for right now. How do you other bloggers deal with dry spells? Do you ever lose focus because you feel you’re trying to do too much? How do you deal that?

Love to hear your thoughts!
