Updates to WP 2.1 and 2.0.7: Upgrading is here

There are new updates for users of Wordpress, in fact, both branches of users are updating. Judging from the updates, WP 2.1 is now considered to be the successor, and WP 2.0.9 will only receive security updates for the time being. As a result, I’m thinking of switching my blogs to the newer branches. I don’t know how easy it will be for this blog to update to WP2.1, I don’t fancy the switch just yet. Anyway here’s the news release:

We’ve got a new bugfix and security release for both of our actively maintained branches of WordPress. Version 2.1.1 includes about 30 bug fixes, mostly minor things around encoding, XML-RPC, the object cache, and HTML code. It’s available for immediate download on our download page.

Version 2.0.9 only includes the security update, which was around the code we use to prevent XSS. You can download it from our release archive. As a reminder, we’ve committed to proving security updates to 2.0 through 2010, but all new features and development are going into the newer branch, which is at this time 2.1.

Technorati: A failing grade? Likely…

Technorati is a major achievement, with tremendous potential. At the same time, it is seriously flawed, simply because their support really does NOT work. Perhaps the demand is too heavy from people using their service, however that does NOT help me.

I have tried on more than 10 occasions to ‘claim my blog,’ but to my eternal frustration, I can’t. I keep getting the message:

There was a problem claiming your blog. Please try again in a few minutes. You can also go to Technorati Help for help claiming your blog.

I tried emailing Technorati for help on this. I think I know what was causing this. I claimed the blog last time, and then deleted my blog. Technorati doesn’t let you do reclaim your blog. I have no idea why. I searched for answers on the net, too. One clue to the problem of claiming a blog I found here.

I don’t know if it’s much comfort to others, but still at least it helps to understand what may be going on.

update #1.
OK. Two things happened. One. I sent an email but got back the standard reply from Technorati. Nothing new there.

And I managed to get my find recognized by Technorati finally. But it is a fudge. I had to add my blog by adding the page: https://www.investorblogger.com/about/. Strangely, it worked. And the feed worked. So now many of Technorati readers will go to that page first. Also, now I have TWO technorati rankings. Don’t know about that one.

update #2.
I got a nice letter from customer support, a Tonette Wong, in fact: she corrected my blog’s entry. Suddenly I found that my Technorati ranking was much higher than ever. You can check the ranking on the right column. So that’s good. My first request must have got lost, but the second one worked. Cool!

Box.net: The whole world’s a widget away!

Vista has ’em, Opera has ’em, Mac has ’em, even Google has ’em! Now your blog can have ’em, too. It’s a widget, and Box.net Widget is offering a neat way to manage your downloads: you simply upload them to their server, then create a widget. Place the widget in a suitable place in your blog, a sidebar, or post, or in the theme itself. Voila! Your downloads are a click away. No more messing with FTP!

With music files, you simply click and they will play within their own little player. Images simply load! i haven’t tried movies yet! My files are too big to upload! Hosting of your files is upto 1GB for free, with unlimited bandwidth. That’s not a bad deal.
