Readings – ‘b-schools’ why should they bother with research?

A little off-beat for some readers of this blog, but the Economist.com examines Business schools and research in a recent article called “Practically irrelevant?” and asks whether any money spent on ‘business research’ is actually worthwhile!

LIKE other academic institutions, business schools are judged by the quality of the research carried out by their faculties. At the same time they mean to equip their students for the real world, however that is defined. Whether academic research actually produces anything that is useful to the practice of business, or even whether it is its job to do so, are questions that can provoke vigorous arguments on campus.

Of course, academics have long had to justify, in practical terms, why they spend or make money the way they do, so there has been a continual fluctuation between the practical and theoretical in many other disciplines, as well.

I won’t submit to the view that research is a waste of time, money and energy, but then on the other hand, not all research is a valid use of the time, money and energy available, either!

What do you think? Should ‘b-schools’ do any research at all or just teach?

Needing PR? A quick program to gain 100 links…!

In the next week or so, I’m going to be exploring some ways to gain a quick burst in linking activity, hopefully to gain a bit of an increase in PR ranking (whenever that may happen).

I’ll be writing over 7 articles on ideas for linking that need not be difficult or require a lot of time, but which should result in some good PR links to your blog.

1. Reviews

2. Link Competitions

3. Articles

4. Free offers in return for links?

5. Link trains

What other ways have you found to increase links to your site? I’ve tried some directories but I don’t figure on much PR or traffic from them. I myself never use directories anymore. There seems little point when you are looking for information, not necessarily a specific site.

Comment your ideas, and I’ll add them to the list above, BEFORE Monday 10th September.

Buzz: CashQuests.com – PR on the nail!

CashQuests recently provided a great article on PR… Well worth reading. Google Pagerank: How To Beat The System

I’ve recently purchased a number of one-year links on PRZero sites that have few outgoing links for just $20 each. Most of the sitesare owned by hobby-bloggers who barely know what PageRank is, but my research into the amount and quality of links going to these sites gives me the belief that most of these sites will be a PR5-6 in the next export. Hence, they should already have that PageRank stored internally at the moment and it is already flowing to CashQuests.com

Kumiko makes a bold but interesting claim that finding good value deals for PR links isn’t necessarily as difficult or expensive as it might seem.
