Carnival, Servers and TTZ Media: Monday Morning News
Stay tuned through the week as we explore our Attitudes to Money on InvestorBlogger, to be published later today… Issue #3 in the series, you can check out the others here…
Carnival of Making Real Money
Are you interested in joining in my Blog Carnival? It’s a great way to gain additional traffic to your blog, get some link juice, and find great links on a similar theme.
This is the first time I’ve run a carnival, and I’m really looking forward to publishing it on my blog tomorrow. I’m taking a slightly different tack: I’ll be publishing them in batches of ten rather than every week or month. I hope that that will make the Carnival much more ‘digestible’ and you’ll be able to check out the links provided. Of course submissions are welcome right up until November 26th 11:59pm (that’s one minute before midnight NYT)… Any late submissions will be included in the next batch.
Server Problems or is it 500 Server Problems?
Running a Virtual Server as this blog is hosted on is a step up from shared hosting, and there’s something of a learning curve thrown in for extra fun. Seems that I’m having unusual spikes in my server Memory… as the surges cause “Server Outage” errors for all the sites on the server. My guess is: it’s a rogue code or plugin somewhere that is using up the juice, but I haven’t started looking for it yet. Dreamhost suggested that I increase the resources, but I fear that the surge is so huge that it won’t make any difference.
One friendly guy at Dreamhost said in a private email:
“You may want to take a look at your sites to see if you have any runaway processes, modules, or plugins that are sucking up memory. Just the other day, I was dealing with a fellow who had a wordpress blog who was almost instantly crashing his PS with a single hit, because he had some wonky wordpress plugin which was spawning hundreds of php.cgi processes.
I’m in the process of inventorying every non-HTML file, application and plugin that I can find to see if any of them are causing the problem… If in the meantime you get a server outage, do check back in a few minutes, the outage resolves itself. If you’re kind of busy, then just subscribe to my feed. I do apologize for the problems, but we’ll get to the back of it, eventually.
Monetization Monday
This feature isn’t a regular column yet, but I’m thinking of running it as a regular Monday morning column. Anyway, I’m happy to pass on a new affiliate program (one that I’m now using): John Chow’s blog is now featuring a new way to earn residual income: if you are using TTZ Media, you can now set up a new referral system. John writes:
For every publishers you referred that are accepted into TTZ Media, you will earn 10% on what the referred sites make for 12 months. There is no limit to the number of sites you can refer. Refer enough sites and this can become a nice passive income source.
Of course, John is doing it in his usual style: with a competition and you can win 22″ LCD monitors ( a grand prize! ) , so if you are interested in checking out this, don’t hesitate to sign up! It could be quite a nice little income if any of your referrers do a lot of business!
So that’s it for Monday, we’ll be back tomorrow.
